Cargo Tales, Pt. 6: The E-biking Bentleys

During February, we offered families from five different schools around Wellington the opportunity to take the Yuba Spicy Curry bike home for an extended test ride, to give the cargo lifestyle a go.

We thought it would be fun to share some of the stories that we received from the families who took part. We hope that these may inspire some of you who have been considering making the jump to two wheels to come in and take a bike home for an extended test ride of your own.

In 250 words or less tell us the most important ways riding a cargobike made a positive difference to your family.

As any parent of multiple kids will know, getting out of the house in the morning can be very stressful! The Yuba was our catalyst change...the minute we hopped on the Spicy Curry, all 4 of us, the stress melted away with excitement, laughter, songs and waves. Carrying 3 passengers age 3,5 & 6, weighing 15, 25 & 35 Kgs each, still required a healthy workout up the Wellington hills! The Yuba, however, made the uphills possible with chants of "MUM CAN DO IT!" on repeat from behind. What a way to transport ourselves, allowing enjoyment of the beautiful Wellington views and fresh air...all while looking after our physical & mental health and the environment. From home to school, then kindi & back; time out for mum around the bays; play dates, school picnic, swimming, gymnastics & neighbourhood rides...we did it all. The Yuba Spicy Curry was a definite winner for team Bentley! Priceless memories that our car can never provide. Ka Pai & thank you Bicycle Junction!

Tell us a fun story from your time riding the cargobike.

The first morning we set off I thought i was never going to be able to make it up the Montreal Grove and Quebec steep hills with the 3 kids and bags on the bike...I said to the kids "you're gonna have to cheer mum on guys so I can get to the top!" All 3 replied with chants of "MUM CAN DO IT! MUM CAN DO IT!" on repeat, all the way to the top - amazing group participation and support...made my day! When we first got the bike, the kids and their friends in the neighbourhood were so excited and loved having dad ride them around taking turns, so much fun!

What surprised you the most about riding the cargobike?

How much we could transport - bags and children. You still get a work out. I genuinely preferred it to the car!

In your childrens own words, how do they describe riding the cargobike.

Way cooler than the car! I love it! Fun!
