Goldsprints at Z Energy HQ

Posted by Dan Mikkelsen on

Recently Z Energy invited us down to their Bike to Work breakfast at their waterfront offices in central Wellington. To some it may seem ironic that a company providing fossil fuels to motor vehicles would actively promote an alternative method of transport.  To us it seemed like a good fit - Z Energy has been very positive when it comes to cycling. They even have courtesy pumps especially for bicycles at all their service stations.   This particular morning, the focus was around biking or walking to work. We decided to support their event by injecting a bit of healthy...

James Kenyon and Monty Bevins playing in store at Bicycle junction

Posted by Ezra Simons on

We're privileged to have award-winning Melbourne based singer-songwriter James Kenyon playing in-store on Sunday 17th April as part of our bimonthly music showcase. The show is part of his 20 date "World Tour of New Zealand" to launch the release of his new single "The Motorbike Song". He'll be joined by much loved local folk singer Monty Bevins. Kenyon's songwriting has been been described as a “view from a car or a rusted metal bridge or a window in a hall-songs that stand tall for the ages". He's played festival slots along side acts like Marlon Williams, Aldous Harding and The Eastern - but this...

A Summer of Events to Support Cycle Culture

Posted by Dan Mikkelsen on

Part of what excites us about being an Urban Bicycle shop is helping to grow cycling culture in New Zealand.  However, the term "Cycle Culture" is somewhat a misnomer. I say this because the culture is not directly about cycling, but is about all the things that become easier and possible when you travel by bike. When we drive the journey becomes a necessary chore. it becomes about getting there. We miss all the people, the sights and the smells along the way. When we cycle, we stop to say hi to a friend, we pause to take in the fresh...

The New Zealand Bicycle Film Festival

Posted by Ezra Simons on

We're very excited to be a part of the inaugural New Zealand Bicycle Film Festival this month thanks to the lovely hosts at Nga Taonga Sound and Vision. Basically it's exactly what the name suggests - a festival showcasing a range of cycling related films, documentaries, discussions, workshops and activities.   We'll be down there on Friday April 8th from 5pm with Goldsprints! A chance to ride stationary bikes against friends or the clock - a great way to settle those old 'who's faster' feuds with your riding mates. Following the Goldsprints there will be a screening of Bikes vs...

The Need for Tweed Ride 2015

Posted by Dan Mikkelsen on

Bicycle Junction cordially invites you to join us on 7 November 2015 to celebrate the history of the bicycle and a bygone era when lady and gentlemen riders ruled the road.   In these modern times, the car is still king. Slowly the tide is turning, but at present the bicycle has been relegated to a utilitarian tool of transport, or a recreational machine. The Need for Tweed ride is a chance for Wellington riders to break the mould. The ride concept will be flipped on its head, and we will instead celebrate the inherent...
