What it’s built for:
The Bridge Club is the latest addition to Surly’s large an illustrious line of touring bikes, it was made to play hopscotch across the line between on-road touring and dirt-bound bike packing. With 27.5” wheels (2.4 as standard and up to 2.8 if you’re feeling cheeky) it’s equally ready to do a long haul down the West Coast as it is to hop off the pavement and off into the bush. It shares much of its DNA with their iconic Troll and Ogre bikes but makes things a bit more user-friendly with a simpler dropout system and only the most popular braze-ons, while still offering heaps of versatility for nearly any setup you want to throw at it.
Why we love it:
We love ourselves a classic Surly touring bike but let’s face it bikes like the Troll can be a bit much for many riders. Complex dropout systems and a head-scratching number of braze-ons are great if you have a setup that directly requires them, but most riders frankly don’t. Surly has kept everything you need and nothing you don’t with the Bridge Club. Plus with 27.5” wheels sitting directly between the Trolls 26s and Ogres 29s it suits the widest breadth of riders. All that and the frames/ builds start a couple of hundred bucks cheaper than their other touring bikes, what’s not to love?
