Oliver and Angela came to us with their vision ofThe Brulee Bike - a Christiania cargo-bike fitted with a chill-box and enough surface space to use as a functioning mobile vender. We jumped on the idea and quickly had our plans drawn up. It didn't take long before the bike was built and shipped to Auckland fully assembled and ready for the couple to get straight to business. They can now be found regularly at weddings, private functions and markets around Auckland, and it sounds like business is going great. We asked them a few questions about the process of setting up their unique vocation;

Tell us about your business?

At the Brulee Bike we believe the creme brulee is the best dessert on earth. It is so great that the French, English and Spanish have all claimed it as their own. Our chef has taken international inspiration to create his selection of lusciously creamy brulees.

Why did you decide to put your business on a bicycle?

We originally thought about a food truck but the cost of setting one up was so expensive. On a trip to Melbourne we were inspired to see some great food businesses on cargo bikes. We decided to go home and set one up ourselves.

Tell us about the design process?

Dan from Bicycle Junction made the whole process super easy. Even though we were in different cities he clearly communicated our options at each stage of the process. The bike arrived complete and we just had the logo and decals put on the bike in Auckland.

What has been the reaction from customers/public?

We've had lots of positive feedback. And once our customers they have tried a brulee they nearly all come back for more. We've done one wedding that had a food truck for the main meal and us for dessert. Aesthetically  it worked really well and we've had lots of enquiries for more weddings.

Where can we find you? Web/Markets?

During the summer months you can find us at Silo Park in Auckland in the Viaduct. We frequent the Auckland Night Markets which are not weather dependent. We also love the Coatesville Market once month. As we're pretty new we're still finding out about more markets that would suit us. We have a facebook page too.

Oliver and Angela had their vision and were able to make it a reality thanks to the affordability and convenience of a Christiania cargo-bike. If you're dreaming up a pedal-powered business of your own (coffee-carts, food-carts, vending-bikes) don't hesitate to get in touch!
