We’re a bike shop, workshop, a café, a hub for do-ers, thinkers, caffeine addicts and bike-ravers. We’re a space for workshops, events, gigs and spontaneous piano jams. We’re specialists in bikes for getting things done and going places. Bottom line is, we are passionate about bikes. Our job is simply to try and spread that passion, and we love it!
Our old Newtown store is where it all started. Dan had imported the first cargobikes to NZ because he wanted to ride with his young children. Soon his online cargobike business needed more room for storage and he found the corner location at historic Newtown Junction (Cnr Adelaide Road and John St). With an idea to merge his two passions, bikes and coffee, and with a strong drive to build an ethical business based on transport cycling, Bicycle Junction was born.
After 5 years playing Tetris in the cosy Newtown store, the opportunity came to move into the laneways district of Te Aro. We nabbed our dream location at the corner of Marion St and Ghuznee St. A local landmark due to the Mural of "the lady of the night" (we call her Muriel), our new location has brought the same cosy and welcoming character while offering us a little more elbow room for jostling bikes, coffee and the occasional gig.
Dan’s the cycling force behind it all. His days bike-messengering on the cobblestones of Copenhagen whilst completing his chef’s apprenticeship have inevitably merged along with a penchant for community, good times on bikes and that first morning sup of coffee.
Annie started off serving up fresh kai and beverages in the cafe and has since become one of the essential three who keep things moving in the shop side of things. She enjoys tramping and makes sure to visit all the weird and wonderful country pubs we have here while she's at it.
Sam is our jack of all trades. You'll see him running community events, our social media channels and marketing while helping on the shop side. He also practices what he preaches - an avid adventure and mountain biker, you'll see him on the trails most other days.
We believe the simple choice of riding a bicycle as a daily
mode of transport can be life-changing, while also
helping to change the world. All over the planet bicycles
are helping people to reconnect with their communities,
appreciate the environment, and enjoy sustainable and
healthy lifestyles. That's why we ride ours every day.
Bike / Genesis Fugio
Greg developed a passion for gravel bikes and touring since way back when! His attention to detail is unparalleled, making him our go to for your next custom build. Four years ago he arrived in New Zealand for a quick summer’s exploration and needless to say, we’re glad he stuck around.
Bike / Hand Built by James
Dropping in to Junction, James has quickly established himself as a wizard with the tools. Experienced working on high end road and mountain bikes, his skillset is the final piece of the workshop puzzle. Gifted a bike at age 11, James never looked back. He also builds his own bikes – welds and all.
Bike / Specialized Tero X
Grant is an old friend of Dan's from way back, who previously worked as a coffee machine technician. You'll find him opening shop first thing in the morning, ready to help you with whatever. He's always cracking jokes and has a constant stream of parcels with fresh bikepacking gear for his next adventure.
