Privacy policy

Last updated: 16 October 2026

We respect your privacy. This policy explains how Beautiful Bicycles Limited trading as Bicycle Junction collects, uses, holds and shares personal information when you shop with us, use our website, book a service or contact our team.

We handle personal information in accordance with New Zealand’s Privacy Act 2020.

Who holds your information

Beautiful Bicycles Limited trading as Bicycle Junction collects and holds the information described in this policy, including through service providers that help us operate our business.

For privacy questions, requests or complaints, please contact our privacy officer through shop@bicyclejunction.co.nz, call 04 385 2362, or write to Bicycle Junction, 1 Marion Street, Te Aro, Wellington 6011, New Zealand.

What we collect and why

We collect personal information where it is necessary for our business activities. Depending on how you deal with us, this can include:

  • Your name, email address, phone number and billing or delivery address, so we can respond to you and manage purchases, collections and deliveries.
  • Order, payment-status and transaction records, so we can process purchases, refunds and accounts and meet our record-keeping obligations.
  • Bike details, service history, booking information and correspondence you give us, so we can prepare quotes, carry out workshop work and help with product, warranty or safety enquiries.
  • Account details you choose to provide, so you can use customer-account features.
  • Information generated when you use the website, such as your IP address, browser or device information and interactions with the site, to operate and secure the store, maintain shopping-cart and checkout functions, and diagnose technical problems.

We also use relevant information to manage complaints, prevent and investigate fraud, meet legal obligations and establish, exercise or defend legal claims where permitted by law.

How we collect information

We usually collect information directly from you when you place an order, make a booking, contact us or use the website. We may also receive information needed to complete your transaction or resolve an issue from payment providers, delivery companies or suppliers involved in your order.

If someone orders or arranges a service on your behalf, we may receive your contact and order details from them. Where the law requires us to notify you about information collected from another source, we will take reasonable steps to do so unless an exception applies.

You can choose not to provide information. If we do not have information needed for a particular purchase, delivery, service or enquiry, we may be unable to complete it. We will explain what is needed when this is not clear.

Payments and Shopify

Our online store is hosted by Shopify. Shopify and payment providers process information needed to operate the store and complete transactions. Payment information is handled through the payment service you select; the information collected and retained depends on that service.

For details of Shopify’s own handling of personal information, see Shopify’s Privacy Policy. Other payment or finance providers have their own privacy information, which you should review when using their services.

Who we share information with

We share relevant information only where needed for the purposes described here, with your authorisation, or where otherwise permitted or required by law. Recipients may include:

  • Shopify and providers that support our website, payments, communications, bookings, records and other business systems.
  • Delivery companies handling your order.
  • Suppliers, manufacturers or service partners assisting with a special order, repair, warranty claim or product-safety matter.
  • Professional advisers, regulators or law-enforcement agencies where there is a lawful reason to disclose information.

A breach of our shop terms does not, by itself, give us unrestricted permission to disclose your personal information.

Overseas service providers

Some providers, including Shopify, may store or process information outside New Zealand. Where a provider handles information solely on our behalf, we remain responsible for meeting our applicable Privacy Act obligations. Where we disclose information to an overseas recipient for its own use, we will ensure a lawful basis for that disclosure under the Privacy Act, including comparable safeguards where required.

Cookies and website functions

Our website and its providers use cookies and similar technologies to support functions such as remembering your cart, keeping account sessions working and protecting checkout. The technologies used can change as the website and its services are updated.

You can control cookies through your browser settings and any privacy controls made available on the website. Blocking some cookies may affect account, cart or checkout functions. Please contact us if you have questions about information collected through the website.

Security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access, disclosure or alteration. No online service can guarantee complete security.

We retain information only for as long as we have a lawful purpose for holding it. This may include completing your purchase or service, maintaining relevant service and warranty records, meeting tax and accounting requirements, or dealing with a dispute. When information is no longer needed for a lawful purpose, we will delete it or remove identifying details.

Access, correction and privacy complaints

You can ask for access to personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, incomplete or misleading. Contact us using the details above. We may need to verify your identity or authority before releasing information.

We will respond as soon as reasonably practicable and within the time required by law, normally within 20 working days. If a lawful extension is needed, we will explain the reason and the revised timeframe. Where we agree to provide access, we will provide the information without undue delay.

If we decline a request, we will explain the reason and your right to complain. If we do not make a correction you request, you can ask us to attach a statement of the correction sought to the information.

Please contact us first if you have a privacy concern so we can try to resolve it. You can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our practices or legal requirements change. We will publish the updated version here with its revision date and provide any further notice required by law. Updating this policy does not itself authorise a new use or disclosure of information already collected.
