The Surly Karate Monkey exists to defy your expectations—and we've taken it to the next level! Our custom build in Loam Gold features a RockShox Pike suspension fork, making this monkey even more lively, capable, and ready to tackle your summer adventures.
Throw labels at this bike—bikepacking, mountain bike—they all stick. The Karate Monkey is patient when it needs to be and aggressive where it counts. Now equipped with a dropper post and grippy yet fast-rolling Vittoria Mezcal tyres, it’s ready to conquer trails, carry gear, and handle whatever the wild throws your way.
Originally designed as a 29er (and the frame that helped spark the 29” wheel movement), the latest Karate Monkey is designed to perform just as admirably as a 27.5+ rig. This allows you to pick your poison—bikepacking or mountain biking.
Modern Trail Standards:
Compatibility with most mountain bike standards makes it the perfect parts-bin bike (no rim brakes allowed though).
Clearance for 29” x 2.5” or 27.5” x 3” tires.

Though we’re a bike shop that sells, builds and fixes bicycles, they’re really just the means to an end; albeit a beautifully designed means to an idyllic end. Our job most importantly is to encourage as many people as we can to get out and ride for transport and enjoyment. We'd love to make riding a bike as commonplace as your morning cup of coffee, which by the way is our other obsession.
