The Benno eJoy 10D is a compact electric utility bike with a very charming outer shell and a properly useful centre. It has the upright comfort of a city bike, the easy access of a low-step frame, and enough carrying ability for groceries, work gear, a child seat, or the bits and pieces that somehow turn a quick errand into a small logistics operation.
It is a lovely fit for Wellington riders who want an e-bike that feels easy and friendly, but still has the Bosch support, hydraulic brakes and rack capacity to deal with hills, wind, daily riding and light cargo duties.

The eJoy sits in a useful middle ground. It is not a longtail cargo bike, and that is exactly the point. It gives you a much more useful rear rack than a standard commuter, plus front tray compatibility, but it still feels compact, approachable and easy to park.
The Bosch Performance Sport motor gives solid support for Wellington hills without making the bike feel clumsy. The 500 Wh battery gives a good amount of riding margin for commuting, errands, headwinds, hills and higher assist use. Range will still depend on rider, load, terrain, wind, tyre pressure and assist level, but this is a sensible battery size for everyday e-bike use.
The upright riding position is a big part of the appeal. It gives good visibility in traffic, takes pressure off your hands, and makes the bike feel calm when you have a bag of groceries or a child seat on the back.
Choose the eJoy if you want a comfortable everyday e-bike that can carry more than a normal commuter, but you do not need the size or passenger capacity of a full cargo bike. It is well suited to short and medium commutes, local errands, school drop-offs with one child seat, groceries, café stops and general “I’ll just take the bike” riding.
It also suits riders who want a low-step frame. That makes getting on and off easier, especially with a rear load, work clothes, limited mobility, or just the general awkwardness of stopping on a hill with half your life strapped to the bike.
The rear rack is rated to carry up to 40 kg, but the whole setup still needs to stay within the bike’s maximum gross weight. That means rider, bike, cargo, child seat and accessories all count together.
The eJoy is compatible with Benno front trays, baskets and bags, which are sold separately. Add a front tray if you want easy access to a bag, crate, jacket, small shop or picnic bits. Add panniers if you want closed storage for commuting or groceries.
The frame-mounted Abus lock is handy for quick stops and is keyed alike with the Bosch battery. For higher-value e-bikes, we still recommend using a proper D-lock, folding lock or chain when leaving the bike for longer periods.
Choose the eJoy if you want a compact, comfortable e-bike with better carrying ability than a standard commuter.
Choose a larger cargo bike if you need to carry two kids, heavier loads, bigger business gear, or want a more dedicated family transport setup.
The Benno eJoy is a very Bicycle Junction kind of bike. Useful, friendly, practical, and a little bit stylish without trying too hard. It is the bike for someone who wants transport, not just exercise. Groceries, work, hills, errands, one child seat, a front basket full of snacks. That sort of thing.
If you want the cargo-bike lifestyle but do not need the full cargo-bike footprint, the eJoy makes a lot of sense.

When you chat with us - whether in the shop or online - we’ll
usually start by asking two simple questions:
Where do you ride? Do you tackle a big hill, cruise a long flat commute, or a bit of both?
What do you carry? Is it cargo, kids, or a mix of everything?
Big hills usually mean more power and stronger brakes. Long commutes might call for a high-speed option with a larger battery. Carrying kids or heavier gear means looking at stability and the right accessories.
It can feel overwhelming with so many models out there, but that also means there’s a perfect match for your lifestyle. We’ll help you find it - and you can take an extended test ride to make sure it really fits into your day-to-day.
If you want to explore yourself on our website, go to our cargo bike page and use the filters to narrow down your options based on how you answered the questions above.
Most longtail cargo bikes are set up to carry two kids on the back, like the Tern GSD or Specialized Porto. The popular Yuba Spicy Curry can carry three!
Front-loading cargo bikes can fit two or three passengers up front. Each bike can be customised with heaps of accessories -seats, footrests, baskets, rain covers - so we’ll help match the setup to your crew.
Non-electric cargo bikes are fine for flat, short trips with lighter loads. But if you’ve got hills, longer distances, or wriggly kids on board, an e-cargo bike will change your life. The motor takes the sting out of climbs, makes heavy loads manageable, and opens up bigger commutes without breaking a sweat.
Most e-cargo bikes will happily take you 40–80 km on a single charge. Your range depends on the terrain, assist level, and how much you’re carrying. Some models run dual batteries, which basically doubles your distance - handy for all-day missions.
Absolutely.
Cargo bikes are designed with families in mind. Add the right accessories - child seats, harnesses, rain covers - and they’re one of the safest, comfiest ways to get kids around town.
And the best part? Kids love the ride.
For a lot of families, yes.
Cargo bikes take care of school runs, shopping, work commutes, even weekend adventures. Many of our customers have sold their second cars and never looked back - some have even sold both! You can haul kids, groceries, pets, or gear without the fuel bills or parking headaches. Some households even call the cargo bike their “first car,” keeping the actual car for long trips and holidays.
A good test ride is the most important factor when it comes to finding the right bike.
