The ABUS GRANIT XPlus 540 is a high-security D-lock for valuable bikes, e-bikes and serious everyday commuters. With ABUS’ maximum level 15 security rating, a 13 mm hardened steel shackle and an XPlus cylinder, it is built for riders who want strong protection in a tidy, carryable format.
This is the lock to choose when you want more security than a mid-level D-lock, but do not want to carry a heavy chain every ride. It is compact, solid and well suited to proper bike racks and fixed locking points around town.

The GRANIT XPlus 540 is one of the best choices when security is the priority, but you still want a lock that can be carried on the bike. It gives you ABUS’ top bike-lock security rating without moving into the weight of a large chain.
The 13 mm hardened steel shackle, lock body and key structural parts are made for strong resistance against common attack methods. The XPlus cylinder is made to resist picking and tampering, while the automatic keyhole cover helps keep dirt and moisture out of the mechanism.
The supplied USH mount also makes it easier to bring the lock with you, which matters because a strong lock is only useful if it is on the bike when you need it.
The GRANIT XPlus 540 sits above lighter D-locks like the Ultra Mini 410 and stronger everyday locks like the GRANIT Plus 470. It is the option we would look at when the bike is valuable and the lock needs to be taken seriously.
Compared with a chain, it is much tidier to carry. Compared with a folding lock, it has a simpler solid shackle design. The trade-off is reach. A D-lock needs the frame to be close to a secure rack or fixed object, so it is not as forgiving around awkward poles, crowded racks or larger cargo bike setups.
For the best result, lock the frame to something fixed and fill as much of the shackle space as possible. Less empty space inside the lock makes it harder for tools to get leverage.
If you often park in awkward places, a high-security folding lock or chain may give more reach. For higher-risk parking, valuable e-bikes, or long periods away from the bike, consider using a second lock as well, such as a chain, folding lock or cable for the front wheel.
No lock is unbreakable, but a stronger lock changes the time, tools and effort needed to steal a bike. Park somewhere visible and well lit, lock to a fixed object, and avoid leaving valuable bikes outside overnight where possible.
The ABUS GRANIT XPlus 540 is a serious D-lock for riders who want top-level ABUS security in a compact, bike-mounted format. Choose it for valuable commuters, e-bikes and regular town parking where strength matters more than extra reach.
A good test ride is the most important factor when it comes to finding the right bike.
