Abus Smiley 2.0 Helmets

Ask A Question x

The ABUS Smiley 2.0 is a lightweight kids’ helmet for the early years of riding. It suits children in bike seats and trailers, right through to balance bikes and first pedal bikes.

The shape gives good coverage around the back and sides of the head, while the Zoom Evo Kids dial makes it easy to fine-tune the fit. That matters with kids’ helmets, because a helmet that fits well is more comfortable, more secure, and more likely to be worn without a battle before every ride.

Why we like it

The Smiley 2.0 is simple in the right way. It is light, easy to adjust, and shaped for young riders who are still getting used to wearing a helmet.

The in-mould construction keeps the helmet sturdy without making it feel heavy on a small head. The dial at the back lets you snug the helmet up quickly, while the adjustable straps help keep it sitting properly once your child is moving around.

The front vents include bug mesh, which is a small detail that parents tend to appreciate after a few summer rides. Reflective details also help with visibility on grey mornings, school runs and late afternoon rides.

Best for

  • Children riding in front or rear bike seats
  • Kids travelling in bike trailers
  • Balance bike riders
  • First pedal bikes and short family rides
  • Parents who want an easy-to-adjust helmet for everyday use

Good to know

Helmet fit matters more than age. To choose the right size, measure your child’s head circumference just above the eyebrows. The helmet should sit level, with the front edge just above the eyebrows, not tipped back on the head.

The straps should form a “V” shape under each ear, and the chin strap should be firm enough that the helmet does not wobble around, but not so tight that it feels uncomfortable. Use the rear dial to fine-tune the fit once the helmet is sitting in the right place.

Choose size S for 45 to 50 cm heads, or size M for 50 to 55 cm heads. If your child is between sizes, check the fit in person if possible rather than sizing up too far. A helmet that is too loose will not sit as securely.

Final word

The ABUS Smiley 2.0 is a practical kids’ helmet for the first years of riding. It is light, comfortable, easy to adjust, and well suited to child seats, trailers, balance bikes and early pedal bikes.
