A Versatile All-Season Bike
If you’re like us, your bike needs likely change by the day, week, month or year. Quite the adaptable little beast, Ogre can get you to your job during the week, then way out of town on the weekend. It’s not sluggish on pavement or gravel and can also hold its own on singletrack.
Ogre is designed to be the ultimate steel utility vehicle. It relishes in those “take-the-long-way-home-and-find-some-beverages-along-the-way” sort of commutes. Snow, sleet or sweltering humidity, this is an ideal year-round commuter bike. You can also haul enough crap on it that you don’t even have to go home if you don’t want to.
What it’s built for:
Does it get any more Surly than the Ogre? We think not. A dropout configuration that requires a doctorate to fully understand it’s true potential? Check. A truly staggering number of braze-ons for literally (and we mean literally) any rack/cage/bag/doodad configuration you can possibly dream up? Check. A color named after the 1995 cult classic song by Oasis? You know it! The Ogre has for many years has been Surly’s flagship big-wheeled touring rig, built to facilitate the build of your dreams no matter how surreal they may be. The stand out features of the bike are certainly it’s big rolling 29” wheels and bullet-proof frame, this thing eats up rocky, rutty, rooty backwoods roads like nobody’s business. Want a Rolhoff internal hub with a disc brake and still pull a cargo trailer? This has got to be one of the few bikes on the planet that will accommodate your high-flying dreams.
Why we love it:
You know when you hear that story about a friend of a friend who rode from Siberia to the South of France? It probably happened on an Ogre (or a Troll if they were a small friend). The Ogre is the touring bike built to literally rewrite the rules for what a bike can be, and we love that. Like in a real deep personal kind of way. You can buy an Ogre with a factory spec and happily head out on heaps of adventures that’ll push you way past your limits, but it almost certainly will not stay set up like that. Every ride you’ll dream up a way to go further, ride rougher terrain, carry more, and make it truly your own and the Ogre is ready to greet each and every change with gusto. Honestly, if we sell you an Ogre there’s a good chance it’ll be the last touring bike we sell you - but selling bikes that last a lifetime? We can't say no to that.
Stop by to see what makes the Ogre the tourer of your dreams today!
Though we’re a bike shop that sells, builds and fixes bicycles, they’re really just the means to an end; albeit a beautifully designed means to an idyllic end. Our job most importantly is to encourage as many people as we can to get out and ride for transport and enjoyment. We'd love to make riding a bike as commonplace as your morning cup of coffee, which by the way is our other obsession.
Bicycle Junction is situated at 1 Marion St, Te Aro, Wellington.
